Google is the most visited website in the world and the only reason people go to Google is to search for something. Approximately 1/4 of all these searches are local searches (people looking for something in their local market). Putting your website and business in front of these people, in your area, who are searching for your products and services can bring you more paying customers and help you make more money.

In order to help your business, Google created a local business directory called Google Places. In Google Places, every business is treated somewhat equally. This allows smaller, local businesses to compete with the large, multi-billion dollar corporations that have multi-million dollar advertising budgets.

For many local searches, the Google Places map with 7 local businesses listed is the top listing on the page (aka “#1 on Google”). When your business is listed here, you will get more traffic to your website than any other listing on the page. These extra visitors can easily translate into paying customers that will help you make more money.

Getting your business listed in Google Places is super easy. In fact, there is a good chance that Google has already created a listing for you and all you have to do is claim it. If your not listed already, you can manually create a listing for yourself. When you update your listing and do some things to optimize it, you can vault your listing to the top of the local search results and start getting more customers and making more money.
